An Operating System is the basic software which controls a computer. It handles the way your hardware operates, the communication with peripheral devices including a monitor, a printer or a keyboard, the allocation of memory between your applications, along with the prioritization of apps when multiple ones run simultaneously. Each and every program which is installed on a laptop or a desktop works by sending requests to the OS for different services using an application program interface (API). The interaction with the OS can be done via a Graphical User Interface (GUI) or a command line. In the web hosting field, the OS is what commands a hosting server along with all the software installed on it, which includes not only website scripts, but also every other application for instance a VOIP or a game server. In case there are virtual machines created, they work with a guest OS which runs on the server host OS.

Multiple OS in VPS Hosting

Our virtual private server plans come with three Linux distributions that you may select from for the Operating System of your new server - Debian, Ubuntu and CentOS. Apart from being absolutely free, the OSs are extremely stable and safe and the primary reason to offer you all 3 of them is to ensure that you can run each app that you'd like, since different pieces of software have different requirements about the environment they can be used on. Each one of the three OSs is backed by a huge community of web developers who have developed many hundreds of software packages which you can install and use on your VPS. Based on the Operating System that you pick, you will also be able to choose between three different Control Panels to control your web hosting content. Also, should you decide that you need a different OS, we can always reinstall the server with it. As an additional upgrade, we also provide weekly updates of the OS for optimum stability and security.

Multiple OS in Dedicated Web Hosting

In case you decide to get one of our dedicated servers, you'll find three Operating Systems on the order page because we want to give you a wider choice with regard to the system environment on your server as different applications can have certain requirements. CentOS, Ubuntu and Debian come with different modules developed by their vast support communities, so you can select each of these OSs and benefit from a stable and secure Internet hosting service. Based on your selection, you'll also have different Control Panels to choose from. Needless to say, we can always replace the Operating System in case the one you have selected in the beginning does not meet the requirements of the software that you'd like to run. We can also upgrade the OS regularly to keep it as secure as possible using our Managed Services upgrade package.
